Shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the New York music journalist Ruth Rothwax, accompanied by her father Edek, travels to Poland to get to the bottom of the legacy of her Jewish family. For Edek, a Holocaust survivor, it is the first trip back to the places of his childhood. While Ruth is determined to better understand her parents' traumas, the ever-cheerful Edek wants to put the past to rest. In this way, he sabotages Ruth's plans and creates more than just an involuntarily funny situation. In this eventful week, the two uncover old family secrets. Love and deep understanding grow out of their fragile relationship.
