Description

From the valley station (917 m a.s.l.) the route goes via Plandadein and Cania up to the mountain station (1700 m a.s.l.). After arrival, the snowshoe route leads towards Höreli (1788 m a.s.l.). From there you have a unique view of the Vorderprättigau and even as far as Chur, Lenzerheide, and the Upper Engadine. Further up to the "Brunnen" at 1920 m a.s.l., the highest point of the snowshoe route. Under the majestic sight of the Fanas local mountain Sassauna (2307 m a.s.l.), the signposted path gently leads down towards Huoba (1811 m a.s.l.). From there, it goes back to the mountain station of the cable car. You can stop by the cozy mountain inn Sassauna next to the mountain station or at the Plandadein-Baizli (between Cania and valley station).

You can conveniently rent snowshoes at the valley station and return them after the tour.

Insider tips

A visit to the cozy mountain inn Sassauna and the Plandadein-Baizli is always worthwhile. Is this snowshoe route too long for you? Start and/or end the route at the Fanas mountain station (see circular route Mountain station Eggli - Höreli - Huoba). For summit climbers, we recommend a snowshoe hike up to the Sassauna (2307 m), the Fanas local mountain.

Safety notice

The marked snowshoe route leads into unsecured, partly alpine winter terrain. It is up to each tour participant to fully equip themselves and to inform themselves about snow and avalanche conditions before the tour.

The time indication is a guideline under good conditions for reasonably experienced tour participants. Time indications for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment, and fitness. Plan enough time and start early for the planned tour!

This route description and the marking on the ground do not constitute a tour recommendation. Every decision to proceed lies solely with the individual tour participant. It is strongly advised against proceeding in poor visibility conditions (fog, snowfall, etc.) or in increased avalanche danger. Caution spring conditions: From about March and generally on warm and/or very sunny days, tours must be ended early.

Equipment

Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-appropriate clothing. Wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature in winter: don't forget winter gloves, hat, thermos bottle, etc.!

Carrying complete winter tour equipment including avalanche transceiver is recommended on the marked snowshoe trail as well as generally on all tours in open alpine terrain.
