Description
The hike offers an insight into a typical area formerly settled by Walser people, with Furna, a scattered settlement high above the Prättigau and its scattered homesteads, agriculture and forestry, and the Fadeuer as a rewarding viewpoint.
Insider tips
After the Stellihütte, keep right on the ridge until the notch. From there, descend.
Safety notice
Good sense of orientation is required on mown meadows, as the meadow paths are barely visible. Often it goes off-path over alpine pastures. There are very few mountain hiking trail markings between the signposts throughout the area! A detailed hiking map is recommended.
Directions
The starting point of the circular hike is the Walser village of Furna, accessible via a mountain road from Pragg-Jenaz. The hike leads uphill past scattered homesteads on lush meadows until, after Scäri, you follow a forest road to the left, which shortly thereafter opens the view to a hilly, grassy high plateau with the mountain lodge Scära. From here, the mountain path gently ascends traversing, circumnavigates Wannenspitz and Fadeuer, and opens the view into the parallel valley with its alpine pastures. Before crossing the ridge back to the Furna side towards Alp Sattel after the Stellihütte, the short summit ascent to the Fadeuer is worthwhile, a viewpoint with magnificent mountain views. Over pastureland, partly off-path, partly on a forest road, the last section leads in hairpin bends after Alp Sattel down through the forest to Hinterberg and then over the street back to Furna.
