Born in Bregaglia, Augusto Giacometti (1877-1947) – known as "Il maestro dei colori" – was an important Swiss painter in the wake of Art Nouveau and an innovator of stained glass. Among his most important works in public space are the painting of the Zurich police station ("Blüemlihalle") and his sacred stained glass windows in Zurich (Grossmünster, Fraumünster, Wasserkirche, Pauluskirche) and elsewhere.
