In the spring of 1945, 12-year-old Nanning actively supports his mother Hille in the last days of the war. Between seal hunting, nightly fishing and hard work in the fields, the boy lends a hand everywhere to feed the family. However, when the long-awaited peace returns, Nanning is confronted with previously unknown, new problems, gradually uncovers dark family secrets and must learn to find his own way.
