Event Klosters
Bach Pur!
Description
Sir András Schiff began his last recitals in Klosters with the floating aria from Johann Sebastian Bach's "Goldberg Variations". At his upcoming piano recital, he will present the entire work, consisting of 30 variations, which was intended to cure the commissioning Count Hermann Carl von Kayserling of his insomnia. His harpsichordist Johann Theophilus Goldberg had to play him the work, which was first printed in 1742 and with which Sir András Schiff associates deep humanity and spirituality, but also optimism and intellectual power. The very different variations are held together by the bass voice, which forms the always resonating framework of the unique composition. At the end, the work returns to its starting point with the repetition of the aria. "At the moment of returning home, we feel great gratitude," writes Sir András Schiff about it. Music as therapy? "Pure Bach!" definitely provides healing moments of happiness.
