Event Klosters

Erection of David Sculpture / Scultura Viva

Description

On July 2nd at 2 pm, one of the extremely rare reproductions of the marble sculpture "David" will be unveiled in the center of Klosters (Christlisch). The sculpture is over 5.16 meters tall and weighs more than 5 tons, and is made of genuine Statuario marble from Carrara – the same material from the same quarry (Polvaccio in Carrara) that was used for Michelangelo's original in 1504.

The project was initiated by Klosters artist Christian Bolt. The work is conceived as a reinterpretation of the Renaissance icon in an Alpine context and connects art with regional identity. The project will stimulate activity in the areas of culture, tourism, and education (including planned master classes) and strengthen Klosters' position as a cultural destination. The David sculpture will remain in place until the end of October 2026. The installation will be accompanied by an international media tour with art journalists.
