Reading Lolita in Tehran

Description
Freedom between the lines.
CINEMA | DRAMA
In 1979, Azar and her husband Bijan returned from the USA to their hometown of Tehran. Azar, who has just received her doctorate in literature, wants to teach in her home country. But shortly after their arrival, their future darkens: the Iranian revolution breaks out. Azar is oppressed by the new regime in her job, family and everyday life. But she refuses to give up. Instead of turning away from literature, which has since been banned, she organizes intellectual resistance together with six of her committed students.Like the heroines of Nabokov, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry James or Jane Austen, the women in Nafisi's living room dare to dream, hope and love.
The film is based on the autobiographical book of the real Azar Nafisi and impressively tells of resilience, cohesion and hope.
