Description

From Schlappin, you ascend through a fairy-tale forest to the Saaser Alps and further to the pristine karst landscape at the Rätschenjoch. On the descent through the flower- and water-rich Gafiatal, the view repeatedly lingers on the steeply falling limestone walls of the Rätikon range – a paradise for sport climbers. Rockfall blocks shape the primeval landscape in the lower part of the Gafiatal and complicate agricultural use – still today the main economic activity in the high valley of St. Antönien with its distinctive Walser dispersed settlement cultural landscape.
