Ochsenalp
The second leg of the Schanfigger Höhenweg continues over old mule tracks across the Strela, Casanna and Duranna passes. The contrast between the bleak Alpine landscape and the Fondei mountain valley with its peaceful grass slopes, dry meadows and scattered Walser houses could not be greater. The tour begins with a long ascent up to Wasserscheidi and then dips down into the gorgeous Fondei high valley.

Description

The picturesque village of Tschiertschen was chosen as the most beautiful mountain village in Graubünden. From there, it continues over Löser towards Ochsenalp. Along the way, you will encounter numerous hikers and bikers. The serviced Ochsenalp is roughly halfway and serves as a resting place. Alternatively, there is a fire pit at Rot Tritt or at Upper Prätchsee. After Ochsenalp, the route via Scheidegg instead of Rot Tritt is recommended. From Prätschli, the local bus goes to Arosa train station. Those who walk to the center can take the forest path via Scheitenböden to the station. Upon arrival in Arosa, overnight guests benefit from the Arosa Card

Insider tips

There is the option to take a detour above Prätschli through the Arlenwald. At the middle station lies the Arosa Bearland - this detour is worth it.

Safety notice

This section is free of hazards and very well frequented, not only by hikers but also by mountain bikers. Because the road is wide, you hardly get in each other’s way.
